Javier Alés, Director of the International Forum of Professional Mediators (FIMEP) and Researcher of the International Forum of Professional Mediators has carried out this in-depth research to understand how mediators live, their fears, skills and in general what the reality is that surrounds them.
It is a first step to understand this profession a little more that in many cases is unknown and the importance it has in society, in addition to the situation in which it is currently found.
Conducting the study
In this study they participated more than 370 people and to carry this out, more than 10 questions that we have analyzed. These are the Questions that have been asked:
- What percentage of your usual time do you dedicate to mediation?
- Do you find it difficult to separate personal opinion from professional opinion?
- If we went back to your beginnings as a mediator, would you return to this profession?
- ¿What does mediation bring to your daily life?
- Do you think that other professions: lawyers, psychologists, judges, etc. Do they do mediations without being professionally prepared?
- Do you feel supported by public or private institutions in your professional practice?
- Do you think there is a need to work on a manual of good practices in mediation?
- Do you think that an international entity is necessary to help research and advise mediators?
- What value do you give to these aspects when you mediate? Simplicity, confidence…
- What is most important to you in the future of mediation?
- Where do you carry out your professional work as a mediator?
And the results what we have obtained are very interesting. If you want to know them in depth and read what the professional reality of the mediator is, you can download it in PDF.

Unique and very important scientific work The topics covered have been very useful and only an expert in the sector could ask such necessary questions, coordinated by touching on the real needs that exist in the field of mediation.
