On January 23, on the occasion of the European Mediation Week, the In-Person Event to Promote Mediation took place at the International School of Mediation (EIM). The event was attended by speakers of the caliber of Emilia Ramirez, lawyer with more than ten years of experience and mediator, Susana Perez, director of EIM and Estrella Ramirez, psychologist specializing in coaching and mediator.

The event began at 5:30 p.m. with Pérez, who was in charge of the welcome ceremony. The director thanked the attendees for their participation and explained the steps to follow to be a mediator or mediator. “If you want to be a mediator anywhere in Spain or have any questions, you can find the requirements on our website. Each autonomous community presents different requirements,” he explained.

The EIM director also stressed that It is advisable to register with the Ministry of Justice, since "being registered with the Ministry as a mediator, if you reach an agreement, the process to register it is much simpler." Additionally, to access the Ministry It is necessary to have a digital certificate and access the application, filling out all the relevant personal data.

For her part, Emilia Ramírez addressed a talk about the importance of having strategies to resolve conflicts and expand professional services. The lawyer reported that “just as doctors specialize in different areas, social workers and teachers can also specialize in conflict mediation.” Furthermore, Ramírez clarified that to be a conflict mediator it is not essential to have legal knowledge, since mediators can rely on lawyers to carry out their work.

During the second part of the event, psychologist Estrella Ramírez explained the different benefits of mediation. “It is not only useful for a specific conflict, Mediation is a tool that you can use for your entire life.. People who try mediation are usually very happy, as it is easier to reach an agreement. Furthermore, they are the ones who decide how to resolve their conflicts,” he said.

 

The event concluded with a round of questions and a debate between the speakers and those attending the Mediation Promotion Event.
