The director of the Housing Agency of Catalonia, attached to the Secretariat of Urban Agenda and Territory, Jaume Fornt, and the dean of the Barcelona Bar Association (ICAB), Mª Eugènia Gay, have signed an agreement that formalizes their accession to the virtual platform MEDIEM, with the intention of making available to administration professionals knowledge about mediation in the field of housing with third sector entities, universities, colleges and professional associations and entities of the Generalitat of Catalonia.
The Housing Agency of Catalonia has launched the virtual platform with the aim of promoting mediation, sharing good practices, strengthening knowledge and experiences with all the administration services that serve families at risk of losing their home.
The Barcelona Bar Association projects the promotion of mediation and extrajudicial resolution of conflicts. In addition, it promotes events that may be of interest to users of the platform. MEDIEM and has expressed interest in having them published and disseminated through this medium.
Through these agreements the Agency reinforces its service Ofideute, which offers mediation for citizens' problems to face the payment of loans or mortgage credits dedicated to the purchase of their main home or to face the payment of rental income and non-payment, and in order to avoid the loss of housing and the risk of residential exclusion.
During 2019, 2,574 people have been assisted, in almost 40% of cases a process has been initiated where an agreed solution has finally been reached with the financial institution in 469 cases.
As for the months so far in 2020, until June 30, 1,549 files have been initiated, 343 intermediaries have been closed, and 327 families have been assisted, only in Catalonia.
