What is the National Health Service?

In the international school of mediation, within the health specialty, we analyze and know, among other fundamental concepts, the one that I am going to tell you today.

What is the National Health Service and what is it based on?

It is based on the principle that everyone has the right to health, regardless of their economic and employment situation. The State takes full responsibility for guaranteeing this right by managing and financing, through the general budgets, a health service that integrates, orders and normalizes all health functions, which must allow the passage from a conception presided over by the disease to a practice healthcare based on equal health for all.

The main characteristics of this model are:

Universalization of care:

It covers the 100% of the population, regardless of their economic situation and their affiliation to social security.

Accessibility and deconcentration

To guarantee equity in access to services, health regionalization has been instrumentalized, based on locating the different health services as close as possible to where the population lives and works.

This is to reduce the concentration of health centers in urban centers.

Decentralization

Currently, there is a tendency to decentralize the management of health resources. To this end, reforms have been undertaken in the organization of the health system, in order to ensure greater responsiveness on the part of services and professionals to the needs and aspirations of citizens.

There is a tendency to involve the community in making decisions about spending management and how services are used.

Primary Care

In the national health service, the basis of health care is primary health care.

Primary Health Care, according to the universally accepted definition, is health care essential, based on practical, scientifically founded and socially acceptable methods and technologies, made available scope of all individuals and families in the community through their full stake and at a cost that the community and the country can contribute, in each and every one of the stages of its development with a spirit of self-responsibility and self-determination.

Community involvement

Citizens participate in the orientation and control of the functioning of the national health system, through local and regional management bodies.
