Mediation: a new job opportunity for lawyers

There is no doubt that the mediation sector is increasingly becoming more relevant within the legal field in Spain. Mediation is becoming established as the alternative to resolve conflicts out of court, and this represents a new job opportunity for practicing lawyers and law graduates.

This is stated by the president of the Provincial Court of Alicante, Vicente Magro, who assures that mediation has been configured as a career path for lawyers and that currently we can speak of "a new profession."

Mediation is an alternative method of conflict resolution that brings with it numerous advantages, since the solution is not imposed by a third person from the judicial field, but rather comes from the parties themselves with the help of the figure of the mediator, who establishes the optimal communication channels so that it is possible to reach an agreement.

The important role of lawyers in mediation

Although in our country the culture of understanding still needs to be trained more, in order to be able to encompass confrontations from a more positive and peaceful approach, mediation is taking giant steps in the matter and little by little the figure of the mediator is beginning to be implemented (such and as happens in Anglo-Saxon countries, where most conflicts are referred to mediators).

Lawyers, in addition to finding a new job opportunity in mediation, also have a great role and responsibility in the face of the new challenge that this discipline represents. Mediation should not only be the preference for society, but also for professionals who have the power to refer certain cases to mediation.
