The president of the Junta de Andalucía, Susana Díaz, has recently awarded recognition to the Manuel Altolaguirre school in Seville for its participation in the 'Learning to mediate' initiative, a program aimed at the school community, to disseminate the benefits of mediation among students. schoolchildren and teachers when facing and solving conflicts from childhood.
The initiative was carried out by the Mediara Foundation, attached to the Ministry of Justice and Interior. The speech was given to more than 150 boys and girls from different Sevillian schools, describing the students as “brave.” The Andalusian Government assured that they will work so that the little ones become the future of mediation and improvement.
The young people performed a theatrical performance titled “Lamediahora”, which deals with the importance of mediation, the development of social skills for more optimal communication, the resolution of disputes and the reduction of tensions associated with a conflict or problem between people.
This play was organized with the purpose of transmitting several very positive messages to all the boys and girls present: increasing the students' ability to make decisions, improving their self-esteem and promoting a responsible attitude towards problems and conflicts. .
The Junta de Andalucía considers it essential to continue with the necessary actions to promote the culture of mediation as an alternative for conflict resolution in all areas and strata of society, and even also within the Administration of Justice itself, since mediation allows decongest the ordinary jurisdiction and avoid the judicialization of many problems that can be resolved more effectively through mediation.
With regard to the educational field, mediation applied to the school sector helps to improve the relationships of the entire school community (teaching staff, students and parents of students), especially in those schools where there is great cultural diversity and situations of risk of social exclusion.
