THINK Global School it's the first itinerant independent secondary school of the world. Through an innovative Changemaker curriculum, students at this high school live experiences in different places around the world through a combination of project-based learning, real-world exploration, and skill mastery.
How the idea of THINK Global School came about.
The New Zealand-born photographer Joann McPike, was inspired by his son Alex to start THINK Global School. By age 14, Alex had more than 70 stamps in his passport and was definitely not ready to begin his secondary education in a traditional school.
Together they imagined a secondary school based on the world travel, he individualized learning and the positive change. With the Think Global School they gave life to their idea of a different learning model which, until then, was offered.
A year at THINK Global School
Each school year, THINK Global School students live in four different countries and they learn by participating in projects in the different places where they are.
Students live for seven weeks in a different country, with a previous week of preparation done from their own home. During this trip, students participate in projects related to the environment, while they socialize, get to know and enjoy the place where they are. After these eight weeks, students have 5 weeks of vacation.
The curriculum of THINK Global School
The Changemaker curriculum focuses on mastering skills and concepts rather than memorizing facts. For this they divide the learning process into three stages: Apprentice, the student who is able to remember and understand, Specialist, when you can analyze, evaluate and apply and Teacher, when you are able to create new ideas and teach others.
Most students obtain a level of Specialist or higher in academic disciplines including mathematics, science, English, social sciences, world languages, art, physical education, and health.
Additionally, participating in a wide variety of projects throughout your academic life will improve skills such as teamwork, the Problem resolution and they will awaken your curiosity.
The goal is to transform students into passionate and multifaceted citizens, capable of adapting and thriving in an increasingly plural and globalized.
A technological school.
