Celebrating an international day arises from the need to often make visible the importance of the sector, the field or the topic that is mentioned. Today March 8 “International Women's Day”I have to say as a mediator that “Mediation” is written with “M” for woman, for mother, for a message of peace, motivation, maturity, modesty and simplicity. A day to fight for equality, participation and empowerment of women in all areas of society.
There are so many colleagues who are dedicated to conflict management and the search for peace, so necessary today, that today I want to refer to them, in my particular tribute.
Alice in Wonderland
A few months ago I wrote the adaptation for mediators of a classic story like “Alice in Wonderland.” In it he said verbatim: “Our protagonist of this post is a mediator, a woman, named Alícia, who one day decided to become a mediator and opt for conflict management as the best solution of all.
As if it were the adventures of the other Alice, it is a fantasy post written by and for the mediation, by and for the mediators.
Our Alice, the mediator, falls through a hole, finding herself in a peculiar and strange world, populated by humans and anthropomorphic creatures, which was not in her mediation books, but which will be the day to day of her professional practice. How many times have we said that academia is one thing and reality is another in any profession. This work is considered one of the best novels of the Nonsense genre, in fantasy.
Therefore, today I want to take you to her argument, to the reason why our Alicia is passionate about mediation, because she believes that there is another world, which is surely understood and committed to speaking, even if they are other languages.
Mediation as a profession
That's right, in our profession, mediation, what seems like a dream, making that allegory to this story, can become reality, since we can see beyond what the parties in conflict see, learn to apprehend, techniques and skills that will surely serve you every time you face a problem. And most importantly: this “travel agency for feelings” and the reality of what happened is led by women. Women who, without fear of what others will say, one day “unlearned their profession of origin” to learn to negotiate, to ensure that tolerance is the flag of the mediation processes.
Today is your day, our day, happy mediator women's day.
"Another world (of Dialogue and Peace) is possible" and Mediation is a tool that brings us closer to it.
